Chink-O-Rama: Air Supremacy

Greetings Chink-O-Rama fans,

In addition to the awesome awesomeness of Kate's Chink-O-Rama: featuring the chink-o-rama dancers, the world has now been dominated two years running by the absolute dominance, what Newsweek called "Classical training with Asian Fury", of one C. Diddy and one Sonyk Rok. These two Korean American rock n' roll dervishes competed on the international stage, first in NYC then in L.A. then in Finland to walk away with top honors two years running in the Air Guitar Championships.

In 2003, AirGuitarUsa put together the first ever official US tournament in order to send a representative of our fair rockin' nation to compete on the world stage. The competition in Finland has drawn aspiring air guitarists from all over the world for over a decade, and never before had the US actually officially entered the fray. Enter C. Diddy, brandishing his rebel's attitude and bold air supremacy. Hello Kitty Breast Plate Gleaming, well worn spandex tights from the "Wok this Way" number, Diddy went on to prove that the US was a serious player in this competition and further that Asian Americans fuckin' ROCKKKKK. Did you hear us all ye 40 competing countries???? We rockkkkk.

Inspired by her mentor C. Diddy, then ultimately breaking away to define her own "airness", Sonyk Rok, aka MiRi Park aka Seoul Sonyk, the breakdancing chink-o-rama dancer, donned the costume from the "Bad Girls" number and breathed fresh air into Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" showing Miss Kitty to the world in a whole new way! Beating out C. Diddy triumphing in the bonus rounds and ultimately tying for first with the Tarkness from New Zealand, Sonyk Rok once again proved that rock n roll, and downright all american coolness is not the exclusive property of mullet headed whiteboys in tighty whiteys rockin to whitesnake in their basement. Oh no. Parental karaoke machines notwithstanding, both Diddy and Rok turned up the volume on Asian America's ability to get stoned and watch TRL along with everyone else in the nation.

When the Project Greenlight documentary comes out on cable and in film festivals you can bet there will be a lot of heavy chinky representation afoot, so go see the doco and support our air artistes.

Congratulations to the champs, and we're gonna see if we can do the sublimely ridiculous and send a third winner in there next year....who knows maybe even Kate will compete....
